Open Soil Atlas; engaging citizen scientists for environmental protection
As Communications Manager for Open Soil Atlas, a Berlin-based pilot project creating an open-source co-learning centre on soil health, I developed visual and written content, delivered workshops. Alongside a small team I trained citizen scientists in soil science, sustainability, and sociocracy. I grew the Instagram audience from zero to 1,000 followers, and produced photographic, written, and video content to engage the public, funders, and stakeholders.

The Open Soil Atlas project combined an educational website with infographics, guidelines, and free hands-on workshops, empowering citizens to test soil, interpret results, and upload data to create a high-resolution soil quality map. These findings informed policymakers and urban ecology initiatives, guiding agricultural planning and remediation activities. Designed for replication worldwide, Open Soil Atlas empowers communities to link soil health with ecological and social well-being.
